Zambian PLHIV network: NZP+
Summary
Network of the Zambian People living with HIV/AIDS (NZP+) is a national organization for the people living with HIV & AIDS (PLHiV), established in 1996. It aims to improve the quality of PLHIV by pursuing three issues namely: Support, Communication and Representation of the PLHIV. NZP+ is a non-profit and non-governmental organization registered under section 7(I) of the Zambian societies Act.
The premise being followed is to re-establish one’s self esteem and acceptance in the local community, thereafter seek health improvement, and subsequently (re-) gain recognition as valued citizens, stakeholders in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and self-determining economically productive members of society. NZP+ as an organization has grown from a group of 28 members in 1996 towards a national network of approximately 100,000 PLHIV (4,500 support groups) in all the districts of Zambia.
