Cameroonian PLHIV network: RéCAP+

The Cameroonian Network of Organisations of People Living with HIV (RéCAP+) was created in August 2000 by three organisations of people living with the HIV: AFSU (Yaounde), AFASO (Yaounde), and SUNAIDS (Douala), following a meeting of the African Network of People living with HIV (NAP+) held in Douala, Cameroon.

Ethiopian PLHIV network: NEP+

Network of Networks of HIV Positives in Ethiopia (NEP+) is an umbrella organization of People Living with AIDS (PLWHA) networks & associations. NEP+ was considered as a step forward towards the pace of addressing the challenge of the epidemic, especially through strengthening the collective voices of people living with HIV/AIDS as to part of the global Network and meaningful involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS (MIPA) and greater involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS at the national, regional, and international level.

Indonesian PLHIV network: JOTHI

JOTHI - Indonesian Network of People Infected with HIV is an organization with legal entity form of association which is formed through the National Conference of HIV Infected People Indonesia.

People living with HIV each other understand the situation better than anyone and are often best positioned as an important bridge between one another and represent their needs in terms of decision-making and policy level.

Kenyan PLHIV network: NEPHAK

The National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya (NEPHAK), established in 2003, is an NGO that unites support groups of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) into a national and formidable force to counter the impact of HIV/AIDS on their lives and that of their loved ones in Kenya.

NEPHAK is a non-profit making, voluntary body, by and for PLHIV that seeks to highlight the important contribution people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS have made and continue to make in response to the epidemic and subscribes to the Paris 1994 principle of Greater Involvement of People Living with or Affected by HIV/AIDS (GIPA).

Malawian PLHIV network: MANET+

People living with HIV (PLHIV) founded the Malawi Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (MANET+) on 16 April 1997 as a coordinating and facilitating body with the main goal of promoting effective networking amongst associations and support groups of people living with HIV and AIDS and their collaborators.

Moldovan PLHIV network: The League of People Living with HIV of Moldova

The League of People Living with HIV of Republic of Moldova was official registered by the Ministry of Justice of Moldova on 22 June 2007 and has 53 members: 11 NGOs and 41 physical persons.  

The organizations listed above act in 4 regions of the Republic of Moldova – Center, East (breakaway region of Transnistria), North and South.

Nigerian PLHIV network: NEPWHAN

The Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) was formed in 1998 with less than 10 Support Groups. Today the network has over 600 support groups in all the 36 states of Nigeria including the capital, Abuja. NEPWHAN is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the programs and activities of support groups, associations, organizations and constituencies of PLHIV in Nigeria. 
In terms of directional thrust, the Network set for itself, two main tasks: 
  • Mobilization of PLHIV all over the country, organizing them into support groups and empowering them to join in the national response with the aim of reducing and eventually eliminating further spread of the virus; and
  • Mitigating the impact of HIV and AIDS on the life of PLHIV, PABA, orphans and vulnerable children and right protection.

Senegalese PLHIV network: RNP+

RNP + was created in 1997 with five associations including four in Dakar and one in Tambacounda. The goal of RNP+ is to coordinate the activities of associations and support them to be part of a better strategy for universal access to tratement, care and support, greater involvement in research and to engage with ethical and legal issues related to HIV / AIDS and to value respect for fundamental freedoms and rights of PLHIV and their families.

South African PLHIV network: NAPWA

NAPWA – South Africa is a non political, non-discriminatory, non governmental, not for profit membership based organization that does not discriminate based on race, age, creed, sex and sexual orientation. NAPWA – South Africa has nine (9) provincial offices, with more than 500 branches and a countless number of ever increasing support groups spread across the country. NAPWA –South Africa enjoys a membership of more than 300 000 drawn in from Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West and Western Cape Province.

Tanzanian PLHIV Network: NACOPHA

NACOPHA is the umbrella organization comprised of more than 10 national PLHIV networks operating countrywide. The National networks are also comprised of registered NGOs and organized groups of PLHIV at different levels. NACOPHA has a secretariat comprising of both highly skilled technical and administrative staff who coordinate and manage resources received from donors to support implementation of the various program activities. The secretariat staff is headed by the Chief Executive officer who oversees and provides strategic and management leadership and is accountable for managing the organization funds as well.In addition, NACOPHA has an office space equipped with necessary office equipment that facilitates smooth coordination of PLHIV projects/programs within the country. Moreover, NACOPHA involves PLHIV who are professional and having skills to implement its programs through the network member organizations.NACOPHA has a wide experience in using right based approach with the aim of bringing together the right holders and duty bearers in understanding their roles and responsibilities in providing quality services. NACOPHA value greatly; involvement of youth, Women empowerment and Male involvement living with HIV as key strategies in implementing its projects.

Zambian PLHIV network: NZP+

Network of the Zambian People living with HIV/AIDS (NZP+) is a national organization for the people living with HIV & AIDS (PLHiV), established in 1996. It aims to improve the quality of PLHIV by pursuing three issues namely: Support, Communication and Representation of the PLHIV. NZP+ is a non-profit and non-governmental organization registered under section 7(I) of the Zambian societies Act.

The premise being followed is to re-establish one’s self esteem and acceptance in the local community, thereafter seek health improvement, and subsequently (re-) gain recognition as valued citizens, stakeholders in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and self-determining economically productive members of society. NZP+ as an organization has grown from a group of 28 members in 1996 towards a national network of approximately 100,000 PLHIV (4,500 support groups) in all the districts of Zambia.
