Senegal

The estimated population of Senegal is 12.5 million. HIV prevalence is estimated at 0.7%. The epidemic is stable in the general population, however,  HIV has disproportionately affected the most-at-risk populations; which include the very poor, sex workers, migrant labourers, men who have sex with men (MSM). The HIV prevalence is around 19.4% in sex workers and 21.5% in MSM. There are large disparities between men and women with prevalence rates of 0.4% and 0.9% respectively.

National Network

RNP+ was created in 1997 with five associations including four in Dakar and one in Tambacounda. The goal of RNP+ is to coordinate the activities of associations and support them to be part of a better strategy for Universal Access to treatment, care and support

Campaign Platform

The World AIDS Campaign became involved in Senegal in 2011 supporting the development of a civil society platform consisting of the national network of PLHIV, women's organisations, youth groups, MSM groups, the treatment movement and faith based organisations.

Initial meetings were held in May 2011 and AFRICASO was identified as the key partner. The civil society campaign platform meeting was held in October 2011 and an advocacy/coordination plan is being developed.
