HIV Leadership through Accountability – Thematic Approach
Experiences of people living with HIV show that HIV, in many parts of the world, is still a deadly disease. Only in well resourced places and countries where testing, counselling, support, care, treatment and prevention are available without discrimination, HIV can be made manageable and become a chronic illness. However, even then, laws and practices, stigma and discrimination often limit people living with HIV from achieving their fullest potential.
GNP+ has developed programmes driven by people living with HIV to map and gather evidence about these limitations, and advocate for lifting of these limitations. GNP+ programmes are organised under four platforms for action. Click these links to read more about the platforms and the programmes that they include:
- Empowerment of people living with HIV
- Human Rights of people living with HIV
- Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of People Living with HIV
The platforms for action are a reflection of the Global Advocacy Agenda, which was agreed upon at the 9th International Conference of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Warsaw, Poland in 1999 and reasserted at the Nairobi Think Tank Meeting in November 2005.
The World AIDS Campaign (WAC) has developed programmes to support national- and regional-level action by civil society to encourage delivery by Government and others in positions of power to Universal Access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. This is an integral part of its campaign support activity, which also covers global networks and global activities such as World AIDS Day.
