What we do
The aim of the HIV Leadership through Accountability programme is to build evidence-based advocacy campaigns developed by and for people living with HIV and Civil Society. The programme provides evidence on why it is important to achieve Universal Access and helps governments to be held accountable for progress on achieving their Universal Access goals.
The national PLHIV networks, with support from the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+), lead on the national-wide rollout of five HIV mapping (evidence gathering) tools about:
- stigma and discrimination (The People Living with HIV Stigma Index);
- the level of involvement of people living with HIV (The GIPA Report Card);
- documenting and analysing current experiences in criminalisation of HIV transmission (The Global Criminalisation Scan);and
- documenting and analysing human rights violations against PLHIV (The Human Rights Count!)
- lastly, the Advancing the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of PLHIV: A Guidance Package will support PLHIV networks to engage in national processes for the development and/or adaptation of sexual and reproductive health services.
The World AIDS Campaign (WAC) works with campaigners to develop sustainable campaigns focused on holding governments to account on their promises around HIV. Jointly with WAC, GNP+ provides liaison between the PLHIV networks and Civil Society platforms nationally and regionally.
The programme partners are paying special attention to creating partnerships at country level, resource mobilization for sustaining the work after completion of the programme, coordinating effective advocacy plans and engagement with governments. Civil Society platforms play significant role in facilitating further partnerships and capacity building of national PLHIV networks in terms of skills, resources and political space to sustain the impact of the programme.
