amfAR MSM Initiative: Fundraising Toolkit

This guide was developed by amfAR’s MSM Initiative to provide fundraising assistance to community-based organizations (CBOs) that provide HIV-related programs and services for gay men, transgender individuals, and other men who sex with men (MSM) in low- and middle-income countries. The guide offers information about who is funding MSM/LGBT groups, snapshots of what those grant programmes look like, how to approach funders, and what projects those grant makers have supported in the past. Finally, the guide offers general tips on fundraising, from networking to proposal writing, and includes templates to help organizations and activists get started.

"I am one of 7 million" - YPLHIV Advocacy Messages

"I am one of 7 million" - YPLHIV Advocacy Messages

GNP+ and the World AIDS Campaign have developed key advocacy priority messages and a briefing paper by and for young people living with HIV to inform the 2011 UNGASS process. These priorities were formulated based on results from an online survey with 168 young people living with HIV from 55 countries, as well as a literature review and interviews with several key informants.

Renewing our commitment to putting the greater involvement of people living with HIV (GIPA) into practice

Renewing our commitment to putting the greater involvement of people living with HIV (GIPA) into practice

The Alliance and GNP+ held a workshop from 6–9 December 2010 in Dakar, Senegal, to discuss how People Living with HIV are involved in delivering HIV programmes in Africa. The workshop was based on the recently developed GIPA good practice guide. Although the principle of the greater involvement of People Living with HIV (GIPA) is not new, it is important to revisit regularly how it is being applied in HIV programmes so that People Living with HIV can play an effectiverole in how HIV work is shaped and run in their countries.

The workshop ensured that the voices of all participants were heard, whether experienced or less experienced in implementing GIPA. There were 45 participants from 19 countries in Africa, made up of networks of People Living with HIV, Alliance linking organisations and country offices, the United Nations andcivil society.

Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention Policy Framework

Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention Policy Framework

Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention highlights the importance of placing the person living with HIV at the centre of managing their health and wellbeing. As a step towards operationalising Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention, GNP+ and UNAIDS have developed Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention: A Policy Framework (January 2011). The Policy Framework provides the broad concepts that represent the first steps towards operationalising Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention.

The Policy Framework informs the development and implementation of operational guidelines that reflect linkages between a wide range of policies and programmes aimed at supporting and improving the health, dignity and prevention needs of people living with HIV. The Policy Framework has been developed through intense consultation with networks of people living with HIV, civil society, governments, UN cosponsors and donors globally.

HIV Related Stigma Measures and Measurement Tools

HIV Related Stigma Measures and Measurement Tools

The Global Network of People living with HIV between July and September 2010 held a consultation with people living with HIV as part of a process to develop better indicators to measure HIV-related stigma. The consultation aimed to determine priorities for addressing stigma, to identify key indicators, and to enable measurement of progress in efforts to reduce stigma.

One of the main conclusions was that the development of these indicators should concentrate on the perception of stigma experienced by people living with HIV as a measurement of stigma toward people living with HIV. This in contrast with indicators generated through consultations with the general population, which were viewed as a weak proxy for consulting with people living with HIV themselves.

The young people living with HIV programme (Y+ Programme) is a GNP+ programme for and led by young people living with HIV (YPLHIV). To keep updated with all information about the Y+ programme please join the Y+ listserve by sending a blank email to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 2010 Global Criminalisation Scan Report

This report presents an overview of the findings of the Criminalisation Scan and considers the serious issues they raise in relation to transmission risk, disclosure, human rights and public health. The report focuses on sexual transmission of HIV rather than risks associated with medical or blood-borne transmission. The issue of criminal transmission of HIV through injecting drug use is not addressed in this report. The report ends with a presentai on of data on a country by country basis.

    Labour Advocacy Toolkit

    Labour Advocacy Toolkit

This Labour Advocacy Toolkit draws on Trade Unions' considerable experience (at workplace, national, regional and international levels) in the response to HIV and presents it in a step-by-step process, which will be familiar to many activists. However even those with many years’ experience will find the kit a valuable resourcefor integrating HIV and AIDS in their work and putting policies into practice. It will also have particular relevance to a newgeneration of younger women and men who are taking their initial steps in planning and implementing trade union activitieson HIV and AIDS. It will serve as a practical demonstration to those in the AIDS community who are looking for effective partnerships with trade unions to respond to HIV and AIDS at both the global and especially at country-levels.

Good Practice Guide: Greater Involvement of People living with HIV (GIPA)

Good Practice Guide: Greater Involvement of People living with HIV (GIPA)

The GIPA Good Practice Guide has been produced by GNP+ and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance. It contains information, strategies and resources to support programme officers in enabling meaningful involvement of people living with HIV in new and existing HIV programmes.

While the guide is focused on the programme level, it may also be useful for enhancing the involvement of people living with HIV in policy processes and research, and can be applied to many different contexts.
